Our history

Baika: Fertile ground to grow together

It all began in 1989, in Chile's Araucanía Region. Ignacio Del Río Goudie, founder of San José Farms, planted 70 hectares of blueberries with a conviction that still drives us today: good fruit comes from well-tended land and from people who give their all. His passion and courage to face the unknown opened a path that would transform agriculture in Chile.

We were born to grow fruit, and we grew season after season. Blueberries, exported by Vital Berry (now Hortifrut), were joined by avocados, lemons, oranges, mandarins, almonds and walnuts. We added farms, and with them grew a dream: for our fruit to reach the world.

Driven by that dream, in 2010 Andrés Carvallo Prieto, with his entrepreneurial spirit, founded  Exportadora Baika, created as the company's commercial and export arm. With it we took the most important step in our history: going beyond growing to bring our own fresh fruit (avocados and citrus) and dried fruit to the most demanding markets on the planet. A year later, in 2011, we opened our first fresh and dried fruit plant in San Felipe. That is where we understood that caring for every piece of fruit from the field to the customer was our way of doing things.

And we haven't stopped since. In 2016, with the dream of supplying avocados to the world 365 days a year, Baika México was born. In 2017 we arrived in the United States with our own commercial platform. In 2019 we put down roots in Colombia's coffee-growing region, seeing the strong growth and potential of Hass avocado; we bought farms and built a great team. In 2021 we flourished on the Peruvian coast, on land that was once desert. In 2022 we crossed the ocean to Europe, joining the Tropical Millenium plant in Málaga-Vélez, which has been ripening mango and avocado for more than twenty years. And in 2026, the Baika Colombia plant began operations.

We crossed the desert, the mountains and the sea. Today we are present in seven countries, and our fruit reaches tables around the world, every day of the year.

But one thing has never changed: we are still people of the land. Behind every piece of fruit are more than 2,000 people who rise early, harvest, pack, care and innovate. They, together with every grower, customer and partner who has believed in us, are our true story.

And this is just the beginning. We want to keep growing with passion and excellence, and keep bringing the best of our land to the world.

Sowing trust.
